The Chili Pepper

I have been craving the Chili Pepper for brunch for several months now. Finally, I got my wish. Headed over to my motherland, Orange, Ca. Actually, my motherland/birthplace is Durango, DGO, Mexico, but I grew up in Orange, so as far as I'm concerned, I consider it home. They have a great prices on Brunch which includes Champagne Mimosas. It is not buffet Style, but almost all of their dishes are under $10. I ordered their Huevos Rancheros Especiales, Oaxaca Style.

Same basic structure of Huevos Rancheros, but topped with shredded pork, and a Oaxacan Red Sauce and cheese. Also includes Chilaquiles, so its my two favorite things for Mexican Breakfasts. You also get fresh fruit for the table, as well as a apple burrito for dessert. (Complimentary)

Needless to say, I loved it, and found myself choked up when I got to my last bite, its saying goodbye to a loved one for a very long time. But you know you will see them again...until next time...so long. =*) 5 Burps without a doubt.

The Habit for lunch today.

Went to the Habit for lunch today. I had their BBQ Bacon Charburger, ingredients: Bacon, mayonnaise, pickle, fresh tomato, lettuce and carmelized onions on a toasted bun. Goodness in every bite. 4.75 burps, could have been a 5 burper, but the bacon was a little tough.

Yup, I think I am addicted to this stuff, I would even bathe in it if I could. I had Pholicious for lunch today with LJ, Krispie, JDubbs, and Bieldozer. It was heavenly. I had the rare beef #3 LARGE and in Charge. 4.9 Burps. Why not a five you ask? Because I said so!

Not too much to report, just let me tell you the facts. I went to get a haircut. It went well (except for my terrible cowlick, but lets not get into that). I had to eat something, I went to Aloha Grill. I ordered their Chicken Combo, includes teriyaki chicken and katsu chicken. It was good. Thank you. 4 burps.

I had to go down to the post office today to drop off a mailing so I had to find a quick place to eat in the area. I just happened to see this spot called BONEHEADS. Having never been there before, I didn't know what was good, but I took a chance on instinct. I ordered their 2 fish taco plate. It comes with one side dish, I went with the grilled zucchini. Man o man...good stuff. I will definitely hit this place up again as there are other tasty dishes I need to check out. Fish was fresh and delish! 4.85 burps. Check it out!

Had to run to TARGET today on my lunch break. Had to get some essential products of the billions they carry. I ended buying some shorts as well. Why? I don't know...but that happened. I figured I would go ahead and just get something to eat as well, and picked up this little gem. The SMART ONES Slow roasted Turkey Breast. Let me tell you folks, I really underestimated this bad boy. I figured it would garner about 2;5 burps, but I think it deserves a little more credit. The Turkey was pretty good, and I just mixed it all up in the potatoes, and it was not bad at all! I am tagging this with 3 strong burps. Go on get you one!!!

Today we had a very interesting adventure at lunch. I had their REGGIE-REGGIE Sandwich. This lovely sandwich consists of chicken breast, pepper jack cheese and baja sauce, and includes all the other fixing's and veggies. This Sandwich was the bomb.com. Good stuff, ordered the Chicken Pho. I don't know why this picture keeps posting sideways, even though I have uploaded it correctly. I'm totally over it though. Just tilt your head and it will be totally disco. I like their other pho meats and even the veggie one better than the chicken one. I don't think I would order this one again. So today, I needed to keep it under $5 because I forgot my wallet, but I had a $5 bill in my pocket...dumb luck I guess. I got the 1/2 lb. Green Burrito and two chicken soft tacos. I even had enough for a soft drink. Do I really have to give you the details? I mean, can you really mess this up? Oh snap, yes you can...I actually ordered a 1/2 lb Green Bean and Cheese Burrito DELUXE? Did I get the DELUXE? NO! I got the regular one...luckily, the cashier charged me for the regular one. He just didn't take my order correctly. Come on Del Taco! I work hard for my $5, I enjoy having lunch, please just get my order right so we can all be happy. 2 burps due to bad service (not listening).

Apple Spice Junction catered our lunch today. Let me tell you...on presentation alone...this was very impressive. So this was a boxed lunch and a very nice looking box at that.

Then I opened the box and DAAAAAANNNGGG! Look at that neatly packaged meal!

It included a "Office Fav" Sandwich (Turkey, Black Forest Ham, Roast Beef), Cheesecake, potato salad, chips, a pickle, veggies and dip in a bag, mayo, mustard (Grey Poupon), and some green veggie dip.

I gotta tell you, this was the most impressive box lunch I have ever had. Yes, the presentation was awesome, the sandwich and sides were great...the cheesecake was phenomenal. Truly a gourmet box lunch experience!

Yup, I know its good for me...or should I say my taste buds, but nonetheless, every now and then, I do partake in the golden arches. Today I had a Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese...aka ROYALE with Cheese in Europe. I had some fries with that...but I did not super size. They give you two options, Medium and Large, I have a problem with that. If there is no small, how can there be a medium size? What kind of crazy mind tricks are they trying to pull? This doesn't apply to anything else when you are looking at sizes...it just doesn't make sense. I love the quarter pounder, its not the best burger in the world, but it brings back childhood memories, and McDonald's, sadly, was a big part of my time growing up. (fat kid) Anyhow...4 burps!

I went to ALBATROS for lunch today. I had their mixed burrito with cheese. Comes with shredded beef, beans, and some grilled peppers and onions. It is a meal and a half, I am still full from this lunch and I ate it 5 hours ago! The meal that keeps on feeding. Great Burrito, but give it a few mins to cool down, it is scorching hot! 4.8 burps!

My friend Mike found out we were visiting Paso Robles this weekends, so he suggested that we go to Papi's and order their Carne asada Torta ahogada. In case you didn't know, in Spanish, ahogar means to drown. Known for his gourmet palate, I knew Mike meant business when he said that this was the best Torta he ever had. I knew couldn't pass this up. Yesterday, I got the chance to experience this Torta firsthand. Mike's expertise did not let me down. This Torta had all of the key ingredients that typically go on a torta...but then the roll (pan de agua) is drowned in some very spicy sauce that takes it to another level. If I can nitpick a tiny bit...the only thing missing was beans. I like my tortas with a layer of beans on the bottom slice of bread. That being said...it was the best torta I ever had, without a doubt. So good in fact, that I wanted to see if their burritos could match the excellence of their tortas. Today I went back for a wet Carne asada burrito. Phenomenal! I will always go to Papi's every time I'm in town. 5 burps for both visits, does that make this a 10 burper?

I went to Pholicious in Irvine for lunch today. I had their All Veggie Pho. it was really very good! However, my lunch hit a really bad day ruining moment right after I took the picture below. I heard a car collision and then the family that was sitting across from me looked at me and said, "Is that your car?" Oh sh*t! No, it can't be...sure enough, some ______ hit my car. Luckily it was just minor cosmetic stuff...hit my bumper, no harm, no foul, no ambulance. Got all his info just in case, but most likely won't pursue any claims etc. Oh shoot, my neck is hurting...too bad I wasn't in the car. Anyway...I digress, 4.25 burps...can't wait to have a huge breakfast on Saturday morning...I am forgetting what meat tastes like...but I will enjoy it first thing Monday morning.

Went to lunch today with DD, AZ, and CC to Jalapenos. They are got some BOBA at Lee's Sandwiches first, and I headed straight to the Jalapenos next door. I ended up having their Carne Asada Torta. Its been a while since I have had a torta, well over two years, it just sounded right. I just really get lucky sometimes. This this was out of its mind! SUPERB! Almost perfect, it just needed a tad more beans for my taste, but perhaps I am being picky, I like to taste the beans in my torta. It was more like a bean spread. Anyhow, still pretty darn good. 4.9 Burps...almost a perfect score.

I think this is the first time I have ever had a Chimichanga. After countless recommendations from my co-workers, I finally ordered one of these bad boys from Los Primos. They have two you can choose from, Shredded Beef and Chicken. I went with the Chicken, I chose wisely my friends. You never know with chicken because if its not properly cooked, it can be dry, and tasteless. If its bad chicken, its like chewing gum, and thats not a good lunch. Went to Albatros today. I had a Shrimp Ceviche Tostada. It may not look like a tostada, but trust me under all this ceviche, there was a real tostada. Seemed like a great dish for such a hot day, and I was right. Not the best ceviche I have had, but for the price, $4.50 it was pretty good and a healthy portion. Pepe's Catering Truck was in our parking lot today, so to save time and cash I went with that option.
I had a Turkey sandwich on wheat. I really wanted to get their pastrami and some fries, but then opted for something a little lighter. I did get a whiff of one of their burgers, and it smelled ridonkulous! WOW...I will have to try that at some other time. Now back to my Turkey Sandwich. Not too bad, it was what it was.

There are times in our lives when we just have a perfect meal. Every now and then, you go in with expectations, but then a certain meal just meets and exceeds your expectations in every way. Today, I had that kind of moment. I went to California Fish Grill, knowing that I wanted fish, but not sure what kind or how it was to be cooked. Today their special was Trout grilled Cajun Style. WOWZA!!!! Superbly delicious. Perfectly cooked, and spiced, juicy, succulent, (insert food network cliches here). It was perfect in every way. As I came to the end of my meal, the last few bites were very difficult for me. I started getting a little choked up, knowing that I was down to my last morsels, and then my meal would come to an end. It was such sweet sorrow. My eyes welled up with tears, and then, it was over. 5 joyful burps. Enjoy your bonus video.

I went to Los Primos for lunch today. I ordered their Chipotle Fish Burrito (for a limited time only!)
Nothing fancy in the thing, just fish, tomatoes, some great sauce and a lot of great taste. This thing was really long. It was like a sub length burrito. Footlong if you will. I really like it though, I walked in their thinking I was going to order a bean and cheese burrito and maybe a mini taco...but then when I saw this bad boy, I thought I would give it a shot. I am certainly glad I did cuz it was really good. 4.5 burps!

Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers

I decided to get a Healthy Choice frozen meal today. Using my Ralph's club card, this only set me back $2.20. Its easy on the wallet. How good was it you ask? It was ok for a frozen meal. Nothing too exciting to report. Just be careful, this thing is surface of the sun hot when it comes out of the microwave, almost burned off my fingerprints getting it out of the microwave oven. 2.5 burps, just average. Have a great Monday!

Soho Taco catered our lunch today. They brought three kinds of meat, carnitas, carne asada, and, chicken.
I had two carnitas, one asada and one chicken taco. All three of them were DELICIOUS! I am not sure that I liked any of them more than the other, I mean, that would be a really tough call. That's like asking which one of your children is your favorite right in front of the little buggers. Their meat is juicy and flavorful, but their salsas really take the tacos to another gourmet level that really packs a punch! Good start to my weekend. Have a great weekend and be sure to go back to work on Monday fully rested. 4.5 burps out of 5.

Went to Rubio's for lunch today. They have a new Blackend Salmon Taco that I decided to try. It was alright...not Earth shattering but a little different. My lunch came with a Blackened Salmon Taco and a Fish Taco...plus frijoles and chips. I actually thought the regular fish taco was better, meatier, just more flavor all around. Overall, a nice experience, above average lunch. 3.5 burps. Have a great Monday, and keep reaching for the stars, if you can't reach them, at least climb a tree. I'm out! I have not had a 5 Burp lunch in a while...so I may have to just go to one of the spots that are MONEY everytime...stay tuned.

BBQ Stuff for lunch today

Lunch was catered today. Don't know where it came from, but it is now sitting in the pit of my stomach. Had some pulled pork, a chicken kabob, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, rice and beans. Very filling and pretty good. Perfect food to start the weekend off right. 4 burps.

I went to Wienerschnitzel with Mantis and CK today. They made me go, I had no choice. If you are ever in LA for a game or a concert, you may see the ladies with the Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs on a cart, I like to call them TJ (Tijuana) Dogs. They are one of the traditions of LA nightlife. Like it or not they are here to stay, and I LOVE THEM! So...Wienerschitzel has decided to do one of their own, I figured I would try it. Lets be honest, nothing could top the real thing, but it was surprisingly good. Saved me a trip to LA. These are not quite as big, and are missing the peppers, but the rest of the ingredients were there. Not bad at all. Don't get it twisted, not nearly as good as the real ones, but still pretty good. You could also add chili if you wanted to for an additional charge. 4 burps.

Had some Fuji Grill action again for lunch today. Kept it quick and simple. Went with the straight chicken bowl. Like always, good and plenty! Not like the nasty GOOD and PLENTY licorice candy that some of my coworkers like to eat. EWWWW?!!! Is it me or is that stuff nasty? I don't want my candy to be a form of cruel and unusual punishment. I mean really,,,its supposed to make you feel good and taste good right? Correct me if I'm wrong...but I am right. Anywho...back to my lunch. 4.5 burps!

I love a free lunch. Had this brought to us special delivery from Jersey Mikes. Just a sub regular sub all the fixin's. Really good. Not much else to report on this bad boy. However, I do want to mention, we went to Disneyland yesterday and went on the NEW and Improved Star Tours! It was great...worth the 90 minute wait that we endured. Some people waited over three hours. It pays to go after 7pm on a Monday night.

Went to El Pollo Loco for lunch today. I had a $5 Combo. There are five to choose from. I had the Classic Chicken Burrito combo. I messed up. Forgot to ask them to make it w/o rice. Ughhh. Oh well my bad. Not their best Burrito. The chicken was kinda dry...not tangy and juicy like their regular chicken. I think (for me) it is safe to say that the burritos are not their strong point. 3 tiny burps.

Today, we had our lunch catered by Pat and Oscar's. I had two slices of pizza, 2 tiny baby back ribs, and a chicken "wang". The pizza was pretty good. The Baby Back ribs were more like fetus back ribs, they were VERY small-hardly any meat at all. The chicken wing was a complete failure, not good at all. So in the end, I reall only had two slices of pizza. Could have been worse, but whatevs. 3 burps. Have a great weekend. Heading up to Hollywood tonight for STAR WARS IN CONCERT!

California Teriyaki Grill

Had to run an errand today so I had to stop by a place that was nearby. Right next door to my destination was California Teriyaki Grill. I ordered their Shrimp Veggie Plate. It is exactly what you see here, 5 grilled shrimp on a skewer, rice and veggies. Nothing too special, ok, but kinda pricey for what you get. 2.5 burps, not nearly as good as Flamebroiler or Fuji Grill, can't win 'em all peeps.

Went to Fuji Grill today for lunch. I had their famous TATAKI BOWL. Actually, I don't know how famous it is, but just thought it was a great way to refer to it on the blog. This delicious bowl, comes with Seared Tuna, crab, on top of rice and some edemame for good measure. Tastes fresh, and you can't beat the price for "fast sushi". 4.25 solid deep burps! Don't you just love short work weeks!? I for one do. Its exciting to think that tomorrow is already Wednesday, going to Star Wars in Concert on FRIDAY night, and a Wedding on Saturday. Good stuff. Keep on trucking folks.

Subway was the lunch of choice today. I had their $5.00 footlong cold cut combo on 9 grain honey oat bread. Normally, I would not go to Subway, I personally prefer Togo's or if I can find one...BLIMPIE's, but this time, I ended up here out of convenience. That being said...not bad. Lots of sandwich for $5.00.
I only had half of it, so it will also serve as my dinner tonight. 3 burps and a hiccup.

With apologies to my loyal followers, I have been lagging on the blog due to many different reasons, but I am back. Today's lunch takes us to Aloha Hawaiian BBQ in sunny Lake Forest, CA. I ordered their Chicken Combo. This tasty dish comes with Teriyaki Chicken, Chicken Katsu, Rice, and macaroni salad. Although Bobblehead Kendry would like to report that this lunch was a home run, I would have to disagree with our DL friend. In fact, I think the best I can report is that it went for a ground rule double, but advanced to third on a fielding error. What does that mean in burps? This was a 3.5 burp. So not bad, but not a home run.

Went to Jack in the Box today for lunch with Mantis, Baum, Chadster. I had two items from their value menu. I had their Chicken Sandwich, and a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger. Nothing really else to report. For the price, its a great deal. Overall, just enough food for lunch, tasty enough. I was one satisfied customer. It won't knock your socks off, but will be easy on the checkbook. Then again if you are writing checks at Jack in the Box, you really need to get an Debit Card from your bank. Furthermore, if Jack in the Box accepts checks from you, you are probably not in the US or you might be in a fraudulent Jack in the Box, so I would exit right away. Have a great Thursday.

Me and my big Mantis went to lunch today. We headed over to ALBATROS (Mexican Food a lot like ALBERTO'S). I had their Mixed burrito (Beef and beans). Let me start by saying...this was a very messy burrito toward the end, but the mess is worth the time. Overall...really tasty, juicy, happy making!

I had to go purchase a Tie for a wedding I am attending on Saturday in ATHENS, Georgia. Home of the UGA BULLDOGS. So I went to TJ Maxx and got one of those Shirt/Tie combos. It was quite a bargain, and I was able to get something that will work for what I had in mind.

So after I got the killer combo attire, outfit in a box, I zzzzoom zoom zoomed back to work and stopped by Taco Bell.I had a Mexican Pizza (even though there is nothing Mexican about it) and a Deluxe Taco Supreme. 3.5 burps.

Went to Albatros for lunch today. I got the mixed Burrito, with cheese. Beef and beans, onions and peppers. Wow...almost the perfect Burrito. The beans were tasty, beef was delicious, the only shortcoming was how scorching hot it was. I burned my mouth...at least I know it was fresh. 4.8 burps.

Hit the spot, salad was just theory simple mixed greens with ranch dressing. The soup was good, but a little stingy on the chicken. Can't win em all. 3.5 burps.

Ralph's Deli

I was out and about today running errands. My last stop was at Ralph's super market to pick up some fruit and soups. Their deli sandwiches rival any Togo's and are waaay better than Subway in my humble opinion, so I figured I would pick up one of these bad boys for lunch. I got a 6" Club Sandwich on 8 Grain wheat with all the fixin's. Substituted the ham for more turkey. It was DELIcious! 4.5 emphatic burps, sorry Togo's and Subway, only sandwich that could probably be better is from BLIMPIE'S. I may be a little biased because my first job was working at a Blimpie's in the city of Orange (no longer there). There was also a Blimpie's in Corona near our new house, but that one closed down a few months ago. So sad. Anyway...good job Ralph's!!!

Had me some Carl's Jr. today for lunch. Interesting story here, Carl Karcher, the founder of Carl's Jr. was born on a farm near Sandusky, OHIO. The CKE Restaurant Inc. (Carl Karcher Enterprises) includes Hardee's, Carl's Jr., and Green Burrito. Not too shabby. Ok so I digress...I had the 5 Piece Chicken Tenders (Hand Breaded). Does it really taste better if its hand breaded? I mean, who cares, just make it taste good for crying out loud. Anywho...so they are pretty good, hand breaded or hand tossed! 4.25 burps.

Los Primo's was on the menu today. I had combo # 5 not to be confused with MAMBO #5. My combo consisted of 1 Chile Relleno, one beef taco, rice and beans. It was so so...the Chile was not great, had much better. The saving factor was the taco. Otherwise it would have been a below average lunch. 3 burps. Happy Monday, have a great week, and be excellent to each other.
